TVOC、VOC和VOCs的区别VOC定义：挥发性有机物(volatile organic compounds)。
一般国内外用NMVOC（非甲烷挥发性有机物）来指代VOC，因为VOC中甲烷浓度较高（体积比1.76ppm、质量比0.97ppm，浓度比1.35mg/m3），将冲淡其他VOC的影响。
VOC指标上是有一定缺陷的：1、VOC种类繁多，但在监测和监管时不可能把所有挥发性有机物囊括进去。
所以国内用了一些指标来表征VOC，如VOCs、TVOC、非甲烷总烃和碳氢化合物。
2、VOC贡献最大的污染源有固定源燃烧、交通源、溶剂应用、化工生产和存储、石油储运和精炼、混杂源等。
每种污染源的成分（烷烃、烯炔烃、芳香烃、羰基化合物、卤代烃及其他）有所不同，根据资料各种源的成分比例如下：（Wei W, Wang S X,Chatani S, et al. Emission and speciation of non-methane volatile organiccompounds from anthropogenic sources in China. Atmospheric Environment, 2008,42(20): 4976-4988） 但VOC指标只是粗浅的加和各种挥发性面有机物，不能表征出各种成分的区别。
VOCs VOCs指标的初衷是通过分析VOC的成分，在此基础上分析各种成分加和的结果。
定义：挥发性污染物是那些沸点在260℃以下的有机物，它们在空气中有较高的蒸气压，容易挥发以气态形式存在于环境空气中——《空气和废气监测方法》（第四版） 在 293.15K 条件下蒸气压大于或等于 10Pa，或者特定适用条件下具有相应挥发性的全 部有机化合物（不包括甲烷），简称VOCs。
——《天津市工业企业挥发性有机物排放控制标准》（DB12524-2014）标准：环境质量标准暂缺；排放标准暂时没有国家标准，只有地方标准和行业标准，例如《天津市工业企业挥发性有机物排放控制标准》（DB12 524-2014）等。
监测方法：环境空气挥发性有机物的测定罐采样/气相色谱-质谱法(HJ759-2015)、固定污染源废气 挥发性有机物的采样气袋法-HJ 732-2014等TVOC 定义：利用 Tenax GC 或 Tenax TA采样，非极性色谱柱（极性指数小于10）进行分析，保留时间在正己烷和正十六烷之间的挥发性有机化合物。
——《室内空气质量标准》（GB/T18883-2002 ） TVOC指标出现在《室内空气质量标准》（GB/T18883-2002 ）中，它并不是表征所有VOC加和的指标，而是室内常见VOC加和的指标。
